- O Pew Research Center descobriu que a maioria das pessoas nos Estados Unidos (52 por cento) agora é a favor da legalização da maconha. Essa descoberta de 2013 foi a primeira vez que a maioria dos entrevistados apoiou a legalização da maconha. Uma pergunta sobre o status legal da maconha foi feita pela primeira vez em uma pesquisa da Gallup de 1969, e apenas 12% dos adultos dos EUA eram a favor da legalização na época.
- 7.2: Desvio e controle
- “O que é comportamento desviante?” não pode ser respondido de forma direta. Se um ato é rotulado de desviante ou não depende de muitos fatores, incluindo localização, público e o indivíduo que cometeu o ato (Becker 1963). Ouvir seu iPod no caminho para a aula é considerado um comportamento aceitável. Ouvir seu iPod durante sua palestra de sociologia às 14h é considerado rude. - 7.3: Perspectivas teóricas sobre o desvio
- Por que o desvio ocorre? Como isso afeta uma sociedade? Desde os primórdios da sociologia, estudiosos desenvolveram teorias que tentam explicar o que o desvio e o crime significam para a sociedade. Essas teorias podem ser agrupadas de acordo com os três principais paradigmas sociológicos: funcionalismo, interacionismo simbólico e teoria do conflito.
- 7.4: Crime e a Lei
- Embora o desvio seja uma violação das normas sociais, nem sempre é punível e nem necessariamente ruim. O crime, por outro lado, é um comportamento que viola a lei oficial e é punível com sanções formais. Andar de costas para a aula é um comportamento desviante. Dirigir com uma porcentagem de álcool no sangue acima do limite do estado é crime. Como outras formas de desvio, no entanto, existe ambigüidade sobre o que constitui um crime e se todos os crimes são, de fato, “ruins” e merecem punição.
