Dans l'unité 5, les élèves découvrent l'interaction entre les systèmes corporels et l'environnement extérieur pour l'échange de matériaux, la capture d'énergie, la libération de déchets et la maintenance globale des systèmes internes qui régulent l'échange. Les explications et les illustrations sont particulièrement axées sur la relation entre la structure et la fonction.
