学术写作并不完全是功利主义。 一个优雅而恰当的措辞使写作和阅读都令人满意。 虽然你无法经常突然唤起优雅,但你可以学到一些通常会让读者耳目一新的结构,因为它们使你所说的话与你所说的话协调一致。 这里有两个修辞技巧可以用来强化你的观点。
- 平衡。 读者经常会发现平衡的句子和短语令人愉悦。 上面的克娄巴特拉的例子(“小时候的女神,十八岁的女王,不久之后是名人”)说明了平行性,这是一种平衡:使用平行结构来传达平行思想。 这种相似之处不仅有助于希夫简明扼要,而且还迅速而生动地传达了克娄巴特拉过着非凡生活的想法。 Williams 和 Bizup 1 又举了一个优雅的句子的例子,其中两个部分的结构是平衡的:
一个不愿听取公民温和希望的政府最终必须对革命者的严厉正义作出回应。
用粗体标记平行部分的同一句话:
一个不愿听取公民温和希望的政府最终必须对革命者的严厉正义作出回应。
平衡的结构和对比鲜明的语言强化了作者的非此即彼观点:“倾听” 或 “回答”;“温和的希望” 或 “严厉的正义”、“公民” 或 “革命者”。 平衡的结构为争论增添了口头力量。
- 重点。 大声朗读这些句子,或者想象自己正在这样做:
- 版本1:但远在遥远的地方,最大的诱发体重的食物是薯片,超过了所有其他食物。 2
- 版本2:但远在遥远的地方,薯片是最大的诱发体重的食物,超过了所有其他食物。
第一个版本在口头上特别强调 “薯片”,因为它在三部分积累之后排在句子的最后一位。 第二个版本说的是完全一样的话,不难看出 “薯片” 是这句话的关键部分。 但是,对 “薯片” 的口头强调要弱一些。 这个常见的修辞技巧是把你想强调的部分放在句子的末尾。
这只是学者们确定的两种修辞结构。 你可以找到其他的(谷歌 “修辞工具”),你可以带到你的曲目中。 大多数人无法着手写得优雅本身,你当然不应该把写作时间花在与你的论点或分析无关的优雅平衡的句子上。 但是,你对这些修辞结构越熟悉,你就越能识别和使用它们。
