坠落防护
人行道和护栏
坠落防护也可能是挖掘计划的重要组成部分。 职业安全与健康管理局要求在员工或设备越过挖掘时提供人行道。 如果人行道比下层高出六英尺以上，则应配备护栏。
壁垒
P部分还要求在所有偏远的挖掘区周围提供屏障或其他人身保护手段。 此外，必须覆盖所有井、井坑、竖井等。 分配的操作完成后，应立即回填临时空缺。
危害分析和防护系统

屏蔽系统的设计应根据以下内容之一进行：P 子部分制造商表格数据的附录 A、C 和 D、其他表格数据或注册专业工程师的设计。
防护系统承受的载荷不得超过系统设计时的载荷。
当员工被安装、拆卸或垂直移动时，不允许他们佩戴盾牌。
当在沟槽挖掘中使用盾牌时，只有盾牌的设计能够抵抗为战壕全深计算的力，并且在战壕开放时没有迹象表明盾牌底部后面或下方可能会流失土壤。
支持系统
