Três pares ordenados é a quantidade mínima necessária para representar graficamente uma função de valor absoluto. Tenha cuidado, pois um par ordenado deve representar o vértice, o ponto onde os lados esquerdo e direito da função se encontram. Para representar graficamente corretamente a forma da função de valor absoluto, o vértice deve ser encontrado.

- \(a\)determina a largura e a orientação (voltadas para cima ou para baixo) da função.
- \(h\)é a mudança horizontal da origem.
- \(k\)é a mudança vertical da origem.
Comece identificando o par ordenado do vértice e, em seguida, encontre um par ordenado à esquerda da origem e à direita da origem. Escolha um valor x uma unidade à esquerda do valor x da origem,\(f(x)\) calcule e escolha um valor x uma unidade à direita do valor x da origem e calcule\(f(x)\). O gráfico será semelhante a um\(V\), voltado para cima ou para baixo, dependendo do sinal de\(a\).
