    Définition : Dénominateur des expressions rationnelles

    Si le dénominateur d'une expression rationnelle contient des sommes ou des différences impliquant des radicaux, il est bon de toujours rationaliser le dénominateur en multipliant le numérateur et le dénominateur par le conjugué du dénominateur.

    Le conjugué du dénominateur contient les mêmes termes, mais des opérations opposées (addition ou soustraction).

    Rationalisez le dénominateur et simplifiez :

    1. \(\dfrac{1}{1 − \sqrt{x}}\)
    2. \(\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{x} − \sqrt{y}}\)
    3. \(\dfrac{\sqrt{x} + \sqrt{y}}{\sqrt{x} − \sqrt{y}}\)

    Solution

    1. \(\begin{array} &&\dfrac{1}{1 − \sqrt{x}} &\text{Example problem} \\ &\dfrac{(1)(1 + \sqrt{x})}{(1 − \sqrt{x})(1 + \sqrt{x})} &\text{Multiply both numerator and denominator by the conjugate, which is \((1+\sqrt{x})\)} \ \ & \ dfrac {1 + \ sqrt {x}} {1 − \ sqrt {x} + \ sqrt {x} − (\ sqrt {x}) ^2} & \ text {FILEZ le dénominateur.} \ \ & \ dfrac {1 + \ sqrt {x}} {1 − \ cancel {\ sqrt {x}} + \ cancel {\ sqrt {x}} + \ cancel {\ sqrt {sqrt {x}} x}} − (\ sqrt {x}) ^2} & \ text {Supprimer les termes opposés dont la somme équivaut à zéro.} \ \ & \ dfrac {1 + \ sqrt {x}} {1 − x} & \ text {Le carré racine de\(x\), la quantité au carré est\(x\).} \ \ & \ dfrac {1 + \ sqrt {x}} {1 − x} & \ text {Réponse finale avec le dénominateur rationalisé, ce qui signifie qu'il n'y a pas de termes de racine carrée dans le dénominateur.} \ end {tableau} \)
